Please Help?

If someone's mother passes away from ovarian cancer does the son get any higher risk for cancer?

Please Help?
Yes he would be in more risk than in another man whoes mother is healthy... Cancer is produced when over reacted cells are activated and these cells can be genetically mutatedd or activated... but nowadays lots of people whoes parents were previously sick with cancer take courses and counselling by doctors to help prevent the kids from developing cancer in the future.
Reply:If the cancer is gene related the son has a 50% chance of inheriting it. How old was the mother when she was diagnosed? Did she have genetic testing done? The son might want to have genetic testing done to see if he has brca 1 or 2 mutations. Did any one else in the Mothers family have breast, ovarian, or prostate cancer? Check out this web site. It explains the Genes
