My 16 year old daughter?

My daughter has been sick for 5 months shes lost 19 pounds because of her stomach hurting her and constant nausea she had 2 cysts to burst and the doctor did a ca125 blood test which came back as 89 normal is 35 and under. I guess she has cancer some where but wouldnt she have to have a tumor if it was ovarian cancer? They havent found any tumors and she also has a low white blood cell count.

Reply:Don't jump to conclusions about cancer unless they told you that! Not true. She probably has infection in her system. A laparotomy would be performed to show if there is cancer in the ovaries.
Reply:When I was 16 something very similar happened to me. I also had ovarian cysts at the time but they were able to rule it out because of the constant nausea and stomach pain. My doctor performed an endoscopy (a small tube with a camera inserted through your mouth into your stomach) and they found I had a growth in my stomach. It was non cancerous but had to be removed because it was causing severe stomach irritation and I was also losing weight. My sister at age 15 had similar symptoms to mine however during her endoscopy they found she had severe stomach ulcers. The stomach problems sound like it is a separate problem from the cysts, perhaps your dr could refer you to a gastroenterologist (stomach doctor) who would be able to investigate the problem more thoroughly. Best Wishes and you and your daughter will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Reply:The greatest mistake docs make is to do tumor markers in the absence of a tumor. These markers are NOT tumor specific, and can be raised in many other conditions, so cause a lot of unnecessary sorrow and panic. So NO, a CA125 test DOES NOT prove she has cancer, just another doc who doesn't understand how these tests are supposed to be used (that is in a proven tumor one of the parameters in the follow up after or during treatment!). Is she by any chance constipated? This could cause nausea. Any emotional upsets? Have an upper GI tract endoscopy and an ultrasound exam of the belly done, if complains persist have a colonic exam (barium enema or colonoscopy) done, if still nothing is found, and blood test on her thyroid function and calcium are normal consider emotional problems as the cause of the complains. The belly is the mirror of the soul!
