Would a doctor tell you that you have 3 months to live if they dont know if the tumor is cancerous or not?

our friend told us that she "might" have cancer...she said they found a tumor and if it is cancerous it is in the 2nd going on 3rd stage and she would only have 3 months to live...this is ovarian cancer....would a doctor tell you this before they are certain the tumor is cancerous?


we've had a history with her lying to us..and she is very vague about the whole situation..she wont go into specifics about types of tests, doctors, etc.


we just need to know...how much of what she tells us is the truth

The doctor could have said that in the worst case scenerio if it is stage 3 she may have 3 months to live, but that doesn't mean she has cancer and has just 3 months to live. There will have to be a lot of tests to find out if it is cancer and what stage. So I would not take it seriously until a biopsy or surgery confirms it.

Reply:negative, a biopsy would have to be done to determine the type of tissue makeup of the tumor. As you know not all tumors are malignant and can be benign. A doctor wouldn't tell a patient they only have 3 months to live without definitive testing to back it up.
Reply:the doctors won't like but are they telling her that or is she just teling you that? it could be possible that shes dying and yes they would know. sometimes they tell the person and sometimes they dont'. depends on the situation. it depens on the family wanting to know. you can't find out i dont' think you are friend and therefore you can't even ask the doctors.
Reply:Absolutely not. A doctor doesn't want to put a patient into any kind of hysteria like that! When the doctor gets the results of a biopsy and it is proven to be cancerous, then the doctor will inform the patient about what stage the cancer is in, what treatment options are available, and what the possible outcomes may be.
Reply:She has a health problem perhaps, but it may be a mental health problem. Nothing she said makes sense. If cancer is suspected they would remove the tumor, determine if it is cancerous and then 'stage' it.


And doctors rarely tell people they have x number of months to live even after a definite diagnosis and treatment for cancer, when everyone knows that the treatments didn't work.
Reply:No they wouldnt say this to her they would tell her that she has a cyst that could be cancerous and that she would be scheduled to have a biopsy and then they would test the tumor and call her and have her come in for the test results then...
Reply:This is a serious matter. The doctor may have told her that there is a possibility that the tumour may be cancerous and he probably added "IF THE TUMOUR IS CANCEROUS SHE MAY DIE" and she may have asked how long would i have if it was cancerous and he has probably told her 3 months.





The doctor wouldn't say she has 3 months to live if they aren't sure whether it is cancerous yet. If it isn't cancerous it can be successfully removed and happy healthy days after that. My friend had a brain tumour and it wasn't cancerous (although they expected it was at first). He is doing well now and very healthy. He wasn't told that there was a possibility he would die even though he there was a chance he could have.
Reply:No, a doctor would not tell a patient this until enough tests were done in order to tell them it is certainly a cancerous tumor, but would your friend lie about something this major or life-threatening? Maybe she is telling the truth and it hurts to get into specifics, because she just wants you to see her how she is now and not feel bad about what is happening. some surgereys for cancer can be very serious or some may not be that bad. As for her not missing school, there is a possibility that she is going to doc. appts. after school. There is also that chance she is lying to get attention. Has she been keeping secreates? You're her friend right? If so, if she is sick then you need to be by her side for everything!!! Be a friend and try to get to the bottom of this. If it turns out she is lying, will you still be her friend??? That's what really counts!!! If she is, will you stand by her through everything?? If so, you are a true frined and I wish I had one like you!!! Good luck with this.
