Could something be wrong or should I just chill?

I have been through 3 tampons today. First at my daughters school, I was dripping (dont mean to be gross, just trying to show how bad the situation is). Both other times were just as bad. I have not had a period in a few months, which I was told was due to my IUD, and not to worry. Could this time just be making up for not having a period for a while? I am a little worried that this could be an ovarian cancer system even though I am only 32. My mom had ovarian cancer cells when she was only 24.

Could something be wrong or should I just chill?
Since you're not having regular periods with your IUD, it's not unusual that the ones you are having are heavier than what you're used to having. Heavy bleeding(the kind that would be of great concern) is when you're passing handfuls of clots or clots that or over quarter -sized, or if you're changing your tampon and/or full sized pad every 1-2 hours for more than 6-8 hours. How long have you had the IUD? Are you having severe pain or running fever? If the bleeding continues to be excessive, if you're in severe pain or have an elevated temp, then call the after hours number for your Dr. Otherwise, monitor the symptoms and call the office Monday just to run your concerns by a nurse. It's understandable that, given your Mom's history, you are concerned but it's sounds like your current period is heavy since it has been a while since you last menstruated. Take care.
Reply:The best thing to do is to see a doctor and get tested for infection first. It could be as simple as that, or it could be more serious, like you said. Especially if Ovarian cancer runs in your family.

I would make an emergency appointment with your gyno for as soon as possible and just get a basic pelvic exam to see if they can rule anything out. If they don't find anything, I'm sure they can test you for cancer pretty easily as well (although, I'm not sure what the procedure is for that).

The sooner you go, the better. If anything, for peace of mind. Most likely, it's something small that can be fixed. I wouldn't worry about cancer until you've ruled out the more common candidates first.

Just breathe and relax. If you let you mind run away with you, it will just make you feel worse. Hang in there! Good luck :)
Reply:You should contact your phycian to ease your concerns. I myself have had periods where I would wear both a tampon and a maxi pad and would have to change them both hourly because my flow was so heavy.

The conditions below are known to cause heavy menstrual bleeding. Aprine use, Uterine Fibroids, Hypothyroidism, Endometrial Cancer, Blood Clotting disorders.
