I belive Doctors, and Hospitals should design another physical checkup, but is all about cancer. I just read that Ovarian cancer is a silent killer, because there are no symptoms until the end stages. I am sure this is the case for many other cancers, so why can't we go to the Doctor, even if we don't have history of that cancer in our families, and just be able to get these checked??
Why can't we get cancer checkups?
You can get that done on your own I guess. But, your right, we need something that checks for the major types of cancer. I know we cant check for all of them, but just getting a yearly PET scan will see if you have any tumors, and bloodwork checks for others aswell. Thats not hard at all.
Reply:i do agree with u about cancers can take a while before it is 2 late but ill tell u y it is becasue the doctors dont feel like and wasting money i think a person should a get a full scan of there body every six months for cancer. But it is only up to those doctors that can let us get checked.
Reply:there are simply too many types and kinds of cancer to be able to have a program to check for them. some cancers don't seem to have any physical symptoms. it's usually one thing happens, then that sends a flag for other check-ups.
i had a knee problem couple years ago...went to see all kinds of specialists. they couldn't tell me if anything was wrong, just a bunch of assumptions and theories. then, i slipped on some ice during the winter...my leg swelled up really bad...had to do MRIs...then found out i had a tumour growing rapidly and it was cancer. i mean, it's 'easier' to detect cancer if it affects the limbs or it's visible. but cancer could happen in the body, and it's impossible to have a program to go thru every possible scans, tests, imagining....
it's possible, but are you willing to fork the money? will the government fund this sorta program?
Reply:There are over 200 different types of cancer and just as many rare subtypes . . there is no way at the moment to detect all these types. The reason is because a malignant cell is microscopic and is not visible until it is quite large . . even then a nodule can hide behind or within the body structures and not cause any symptoms. A malignant tumor will continue to grow and as long as it doesn't cause any pain or intefere with any body organ . . no one will know it is there. It's not until a lump or bump is obvious and starts to cause symptoms or pain will cancer be detected. Even a doctor cannot tell when the cancer is too small. Detecting cancer early is not easy . . and finding it early is mostly luck. There are very few cancer 'marker's for specific types of cancer. So, unfortunately there is no way of knowing if you have cancer or not for most cancer. Best thing you can do is stay aware of your own body and check any odd or unexplainable lumps or bumps with your doctor.
