Financial help for a friend with cancer. Ideas ? Please help!?

I have a friend who has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Her insurance only pays for so much. She has three children and is working as much as she can to make ends meet. Do you know of resources to help? We are looking at a benefit but I was wondering if there are others out there who know of some resources during a time like this? Your help is appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Speak with a social worker in a medical setting. They should know the resources in your area. The American Cancer Society can also be helpful.
Reply:call the churches or local police dept and fire dept they might want to help or american legions
Reply:Maybe she should sign up for PPA Partership prescription assistance.

it well help pay for many of the prescriptions that her insurance won't I saw it on Montel and signed my grandparents up.

Good luck your a good friend.
Reply:A lot of people are wary of giving cash. You can hold a food drive, you can ask people to give grocery gift cards and stuff like that. You can also mention to all your friends to give her some of the gift cards they get for Christmas (I know I often get about five gift cards for Christmas, lol).

Every little bit helps. She can try to go to the government, but it's a full time job just to get assistance (which is why there are so many bums working the system).

If you lived in a community like mine, she can just go to the church and tell the pastor what she needs and he will help her find someone who can help. She might need help with sitters, groceries, clothing, etc. If everyone pitched in, I bet it would make a huge difference.
Reply:It's possible that her children's shcool could host a benefit.

A kid in my class has a mom with cancer and they hosted a benefit. It was an auction and was a lot of fun.

Another kid had a sister with it and they hosted benefits and support for them. They sold bracelets and ribbons with her name on it and got a lot of money for the cause.
Reply:My friend had a major surgery and we did an auction of single bachelors and bachelorettes for a date. We posted pics and brief bios. We auctioned off about 15 people and made almsot $6,000. We also had a place that people could donate using their visa.

Does she qualify for state assistance? Medicaid may be able to help, but it is income based. Did she have disability insurance? That could supplement her income during this time. You may have to do alot of work to find them, but there are resources to help.
Reply:Depending on her income level, she may qualify for Women's Health Medicaid. This is NOT NOT NOT, regular Medicaid and she'll have to jump thru a lot of hoops and deal with BS, but if she gets it, all of her treatment will be covered.

CancerCare has some grants. Applications can be found on: www.cancercare.org.

American Cancer Society has some resources too.

Also, dial 211 and have her zip code. This is the United Way's help line and they can direct you to resources to help with her rent, food, utility costs etc.
Reply:You might want to set up an account at a local bank so that friends and relatives can donate that way. Maybe send out holiday cards with information about how to donate. Don't flat out ask for money but just provide the info for anyone who wants to help.

You could also find creative and fun ways to raise money.

Maybe ask friends/family to cook up things that you can sell at a bake sale. You could also ask people to donate old items they have around the house and have a garage sale.
Reply:cancer society, social security office, support groups, there is help out there. i too am a cancer patient. god bless her and her children
