Pap smear what all does it test for other than cervical cancer??
A pap smear only tests for abnormal cell in the cervix or vagina. If you have an abnormal pap, they will do more testing. Usually an abnormal pap is due to bacteria or the HPV virus. A pap isn't a good way to find out if someone has an STD, you will need specific tests for those.

It can't test for ovarian cancer or a cyst. During the exam, the doctor will feel your ovaries and by that, tell if something seems enlarged (ie cyst or tumor).
Reply:no as it doesn't go up that far =however it does check for stds and pregnancy
Reply:a Pap smear only tests for abnormal cell growth. it does not even test for HPV unless the MD asks for HPV culture.

ovarian cancer cannot be tested with a pap smear nor can cysts in that area of the body. ovarian cancer usually has to be biopsied or found from a CT scan.

if you're younger than 35 i wouldn't even think about ovarian cancer.
Reply:yes they do check for cysts. they feel your abdomen while they have their fingers inside of you to check for abnormalities and such.
Reply:all stds
