I applaud the campaign against breast cancer, but shouldn't there be more attention given to all cancers?

Children don't die from breast cancer, they get leukemia. Men - prostate cancer. Then there's ovarian cancer, pancreatic cancer...............................

I agree that attention should be given to other cancers. Whoever said that breast cancer "deserves" the most attention is obviously a very ignorant person. Teenagers 14-19 are becoming an age group to focus on concerning cancer dx and treatment. This is the ONLY age group that is not seeing a decrease in cancer rates. Also, only 10% of 14-19 yr. olds are included in clinical trials for cancer research, wheras 90% of children under the age of 14 are included. My daughter who is 14 has thyroid cancer. She has undergone 2 surgeries and is about to begin radiation. September was Childhood Cancer Awareness month and also Thyroid Cancer Awareness month. There are people who don't even realize children can get thyroid cancer, and that is soooo frustrating to me. NO CHILD should ever have to suffer from cancer and more attention must be brought to light about childhood cancer. Thanks for bringing up an excellent point.
Reply:Are you sure children and men, too, don't die from breast cancer? You get breasts at the age of 11 or 12 and you sure as hell can get cancer in them.

Reply:I agree there should be. But the radical nature of breast cancer treatment, sometimes removing the breast, brings in all other sorts of questions of identity and femininity that cut to the quick of what it really means to suffer from a life-threatening/changing illness.
Reply:Breast cancer affects more people, therefore it deserves the attention. It is very unlikely that any significant strides in breast cancer treatment will not have a positive impact on other cancers, so it makes sense to maintain a high public awareness of the disease. The greatest marketing advantage breast cancer has (sadly), is that almost everyone knows someone, or knows of someone, who has been affected by it.





And the campaign against cancer doesn't need your applause, it needs your contribution!
Reply:Although there are many type of cancers out there, breat cancer is one of the most, i guess you can say "popular". more women around the world have cancer than say prostate or leukemia. and as for men not getting cancer a reasent study has proven that men with large "breasts" are at risk of devoloping breast cancer. as for the children when do your breast devolop, at 10 or 11, aren't you a kid at 10?
Reply:I think if we gave cancer to one of the CEOs of the cancer drug companies then we would have a cure in no time at all. We all know they enjoy making their money on people who really have no choice but to buy medicine from them.
Reply:This may or may not boggle your mind, but when my step-mother passed away in June, her breast cancer (that they had removed with one of her breasts 3 years ago) had come back and metastasized in her spinal fluid AFTER they had fought off the 2 dozen tumors in her brain.





As pointed out by Thin, this is an issue near and dear to almost every person in our country alone. Given that breast cancer can jump around and cause as much damage as other cancers, whatever advances can be developed should be helpful across the board.
Reply:I think so but 10,000,000 woment and men suffer from breast cancer, I think just because if effects so many people they pay special attention to it. I do agree that no one should forget about the other types of cancers though.
Reply:Breast cancer is a cancer of breast tissue. It is not necessarily for ladies only men and children also have breast region in their body and they may also get it. But the percentage may be very less.

Because the breast is composed of identical tissues in males and females, breast cancer can also occur in males, but here the incidence is very low.Breast cancer is one of the oldest known forms of cancer tumors. All the other cancers are also dangerous and every one is doing their best to do what ever they can do. And definitely more attention has to be given for all cancers including that of men also. There are more than 100 types of cancers and worldwide cancer societies and Government are doing their might as CANCER IS STILL AN ENIGMA.





Let us fight all kinds of cancers and try to kill them.
Reply:YES! Childhood Cancer month is September. Where were all the gold ribbons? People don't want to think about kids having cancer because it is too sad. Well it is my reality and the reality of many, many other parents.
Reply:YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! definately. I think brain cancer should get just as much attention. I'm not sure who makes these decisions, it's like breast cancer is more important
Reply:I hear what you are saying and while I too do not think the solution is to take attention away from breast cancer... there should be more publicity for other types of cancer. Having survived uterine cancer myself... I hear you loud and clear. That is one reason I support Lance Armstrongs campaign... www.livestrong.org. He's not bias in what type of cancer he supports.
Reply:People at the head of governments health agencies , which determine fund allocations for cancer prevention and awareness are men. Being men, they are obsessed with boobs, and want everything done to make sure they remain health and look good :))))
