i have ovarian cysts
and i heard sometimes that can turn into ovarian cancer.
what are the chances of me getting it?
i think my grandma had a small bit of skin cancer in her nose once and they just removed it.
and that was the only cancer ever in the family.
If cancer doesnt run in my family...?
ovarian cysts are NORMAL, a cyst forms to eject the egg each time you ovulate. With no family history of ovarian cancer you have little to worry about.
Reply:Only 5-10% of cancers (maximum) are inherited, so 90-95% of cancers have nothing to do with how many people in your family have, or have not, had cancer. Ovarian cysts are very common and most likely will never cause ovarian cancer, but just because you have a family history free of cancer does not mean you should not be vigilant.
Reply:maybe you think it does not run in your family, but try doing a family tree from both sides of the family and you will be surprise of all the info you can find out. it helped me find out that both sides of my family have a high risk and that i am screwed and i am now having to go to a genetics doctor to have my genetics checked and see if i was born with any cancer genes...it has been very helpfull try it out...
