Cervical Cancer Questions....?

Here's my issues, I'm finding info online but not from women whom have had it. I need advice. I'm 22 and my family has history of cancer, both ovarian and cervical. Lately for maybe 6 months I've been experiencing periods lasting longer than 3 months, most of the time it's spotting and sometimes heavier. I know that cervical cancer shows no signs, or anything. But I need some info. Can it kill? If you have the surgery how long can you survive? A full life? That's what worries me most. Also, what happens after the hysterectomy? Information like that. I have never been to a gyno, so I am a little uneasy on going. Just need some advice. If you help please do, anyone that has gone through this or knows someone how has. Thanks.

Cervical Cancer Questions....?
you are young, if you have family history of cancer, you should go get a pap smear to have on record. That will have a base line sample on record with your doctor. If you have an abnormal test than you will get 1 done every 6 months. If it is normal than you will get it checked every year. It is best to do it sooner than later that way if you do have anything they can find it. If you do need a complete hysterectomy you will need to be on hormones for the rest of your life. I would be like going through Menopose at a young age.

Good Luck hope this helps
Reply:The only way cervical cancer can be diagnosed is through a pap smear. If you haven't had your first pap yet, I'd suggest setting up an appt, especially if your family has a history of cancer. If cervical cancer is caught in the early stages, it can be treatable. However, left un-detected, it can metastasize to other organs, and could cause death.

I suggest talking with your doctor. You cannot self-diagnose cervical cancer. As I said, the only way to detect it is with a pap smear. Inform your Dr. that you do have a family history. He/She will do a full work-up that can put your mind at ease.
Reply:first you need to find a gynecologist to see and let them answer the questions you have. i had precancerous cells in my cervix and had them frozen and that was about 10 years ago and i haven't had any more problems.
