I am 37 years old and I found out that I have ovarian cycts. I would like to know if I have a risk of having ovarian cancer?
Ovarian Cycts?
A few months ago I found out that I have a few (I didn't know until one ruptured), my GYN told me that most women get them and they are not cancerous. Like everyone else has said, if they're causing you any discomfort, or you have a history of ovarian cancer in your family you should definitely let your doctor know.
Reply:No. Not necessarily. Many woman have this occur sometime in their lives. Always have them monitored for changes in size. If you ever feel discomfort let your gyn know.
Reply:Lots of people get ovarian cyct and they don't have cancer. I have had 23 cycts and not one was cancerious. You are at greater risk of having cancer if you have HPV. Also has anyone in your family ever had ovarian cancer? This will add to you being at greater risk for having. Don't worry about it most of the time cycts are not cancerious.
Reply:Every woman gets ovarian cysts. 90% or better of the time they dissolve and there is no problem and they are benign (non-cancerous). Only your OB/GYN and regular check-ups will help with the ovarian cancer question. The problem with OV Can is that there are usually NO symptoms, which is why regular check-ups are important.
Reply:Ovarian cysts don't necessarily cause more or less of a risk of ovarian cancer. Keep checking in at the doctor as normal and have them checked regularly. If you have more problems they may need to remove the cysts.
Reply:I had one and did not have cancer.
Reply:You do have a risk of having Ovarian cancer. Now, just because you have Ovarian cysts doesn't mean you do or will have Ovarian cancer...however the fact that you have cysts DOES put you at risk. Make sure you see your doctor to monitor them. Especially if you have bloating, are unusually tired, back pain, nausea or diarrhea. I was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer in 2001.
