Cancer and tumors.........?

i know about ovarian cancer but is it possible that a woman can have an 11lb tumor removed from one of her ovaries it be cancerous and only take chemo for less than 2 months and live cancer free for three yrs after? if so how because i thought biopsies were done on tumors once found before they were removed, and is it not true that in some cases cancerous tumors cannot be removed because in some cancers when exposed to air they spread correct. can some one please answer this for me.

Cancer and tumors.........?
personal exp- had cervical cancer diagnosed in 95/doc did partial hysterectomy and 1 round chemo- in 2000 the remaining ovaries removed at mayo clinic in scottsdale with golfball size tumors- i am ok now -i was advised "exposure to air"on cancer spreading is a "wives tale" and not true-please tell every female u know to get the GARDISIL vaccine as cervical cancer affects 400,000 a yr with 1/3 of them dying gardisil vaccine that u get 3 x's and works on the HPV virus which 80% of woman have!!please please avoid cervical cancer with this vaccine its mandatory now in texas for females(like polio mmr etc)pls tell everyone! HOPE U ARE WELL!
Reply:every cancer is different, exposed to air, well i dont know about that one, but if its cut open it can spread, my uncle had a large contained tumor in one lung and fell on the golf course and broke a rib and it punctured that tumor and he was dead in 2 wks. if it worked on her then it worked, there is never a gaurentee it wont come back or happen to the other ovary, however im still making life difficult for everyone i know 21 yrs after my cancer surgery.
Reply:Well, to start off, not all tumors are cancerous. The tricky thing with cancer is that they can all differ. So if a woman had the (cancerous) tumor removed, it's possible that most of the cancerous tissue was taken out, and then further-more, it was re-enforced by chemotherapy, which would allow her to be "cancer-free" for some time after. Some cancers can't be removed b/c the process of removal can be very dangerous- more dangerous than the tumor itself. I've never heard about cancers spreading when exposed to air... that doesn't really make sense.
Reply:Yes you can have a big tumor and they can take it out with out opening you up. If they think it will test positive for Cancer they do the biopsy while you still under.

some Cancers they can tell by looking at it.and as for chemo it depends on what stage it is in, why don't you look up ovarian cancer. I would think that they would take the ovary out at the same time. I just want to say that some cancers will spreed if exposed.
Reply:In any case the tumor would have to be removed whether cancerous or benign since it would be pressing on other organs. Perhaps it was encapsulated and had not spread to other sites. I doubt if it is the air that causes the spread of cancer, but the release of cells during surgery. I have known of people who had large ovarian cysts removed that were not cancerous. It seems in the case u describe would have radiation used to shrink the tumor before removal. Type in ovarian cancer in ur web search for accurate info. or speak with the doctor.
