3 Ovarian cysts?!?

i have been having stomach and chest pain for about a month so i went to the doctor and i did a chest xray just to make sure my chest was ok... and that was fine, then today i had a cat scan on my stomach and the doctor said that i had 3 cysts on my ovaries (i do not know how big or anything) and that he would contact me again after the weekend to discuss what we were going to do (since it was already too late this afternoon) anyways... so is a common to have cysts on ur ovaries? .. i am on birth control and have been for over a year, but i actually havent been on it for about two months, but plan on starting it back up after my next period... so im just wondering if anyone knows anything about ovarian cysts and what causes them or if its bad or what? i'm kinda of worried but i also know sometimes it is common. Also, i am 19 and is there any chance it could be cancer or anything?! im kinda worried about that.. any info would be great! thank u!

3 Ovarian cysts?!?
Yes, it's common for some women to have cysts on their ovaries. I'm not sure if there's any one thing that causes them, but I do know they can be hereditary. I had one that was wrapped around my right ovary, and didn't know it until I got pregnant. Unfortunately, I ended up having a tubal pregnancy, and lost the baby. They had to remove my ovary, fallopian tube and the month old baby, leaving me with only the left side operational. Nine months later, I was pregnant again, and I ended up having a very healthy baby boy (10 pounds!). Three years later, a little girl, again very healthy (8 pounds 9 ounces). I've had no other problems. I would talk to your doctor about what's next for you. He might suggest you stop taking birth control for a while, and discuss other methods that are safer. I understand your concern about cancer...my mom died of uterine cancer when I was 17. The best answer I can give you is to talk to your doctor about your options. Ask him for some reliable internet links, or literature that he might have in his office that you can take home and read. Every person is different, so talking to your doctor is the best way to deal with what your next steps will be. I know they do lots of things with lasers now, with minimal scars and minimal hospital time. Hope all turns out well for you. %26lt;*)))%26gt;%26lt;

Reply:I don't think it's cancer. They are kind of common, but they interfere with your ability to have a baby.
Reply:Best bet is to wait for him to contact you again and ask these questions then.

I'm actually worried myself at the moment because I recently found lumps, that hurt with any pressure, under my skin in my pelvic area. My mom says they could be cysts and her mother died from, what I believe was, ovarian cancer.

I tried looking it up but read that ovarian cancer usually occurs after menopause which happens way later in life..

Again, talk with your doctor, your situation is your own and like every person is different, so are situations as these.
Reply:I've had cysts before %26amp; they've ruptured on their own. No big deal - cramping - some bleeding. Of course, after 15 years of marriage, I've never had kids. We never checked out why we couldn't have kids. I doubt it's the cysts. I wouldn't worry about them until you talk to your doctor. I think they're pretty common.
Reply:Ovarian cysts are very common. Most women have them now and then, and never know it.

The most common kind of cyst is a follicle cyst. When your ovary gets ready to release an egg, the egg is in a small cyst. When the cyst breaks, the egg is released. Sometimes the cyst doesn't break, and will keep growing. The other kind of cyst is called a corpus luteum cyst. Both of these kinds of cysts usually go away on their own. If they break when they are large, they may cause some pain.

There is a condition called polycystic ovary syndrome in which there are multiple cysts and abnormal hormone levels. This is usually associated with obesity.

Ovarian cancer almost always affects women over the age of 50.

I am giving you links describing ovarian cysts, ovarian cancer, and polycystic ovary syndrome.

I am sure you don't have anything to worry about.
Reply:An honest answer from someone who has cysts! They can be something to worry about, not to get you in a hype but it can be cancerous, (unlikely) I wouldn't wait for him to call I would call him! Birth control is an option to help minimize them, a minor surgery is also a posibilty. I have had Cysts from the time I was 17 till now. They can burst and this is very toxic to your body. They are painful trust me I know I have beged my docter to take my parts! They will bother you the most when you ovulate, take motrin and use heat!
Reply:Nobodyin is right on--

Also to correct bonnie...the fluid in most cysts is water based and is safe and NOT toxic to the body and will reabsorb back into the body with no trouble...
Reply:i have had ovarian cysts in the past and they continue to come back. the first time my mom thought that it was my appendix but i had an ultrasound and it was a cyst. i am not sure if they are bad but i don't think so because they are so common with women. my doctor did not do anything to me. it hurts pretty bad when i get them. i am 16
