I need help, doctor not giving me answers...?

Hi, about 2 months ago I started having a shooting pain down my right leg and severe lower back pain. Afetr many trips to the chiro and treatments for a pinched Ciatic nerve the chiro said I should go see my gyno and check if there wasn't another problem as the chiro treatments weren't helping.

I went to the gyno yesterday and explained to his nurse my situation, she wrote some stuff on a paper and sent me in to have my exam. The gyno did a internal and pap and said everything feels normal. I asked "are you sure" he said yup, explained that pain was normal during ovulation and everythings fine and ran out of the room to see his next patient. I was left sitting there thinking am I crazy, why do I have such severe pain if nothings wrong. My husband says I should be happy and I know I should, yet I feel pain and I know its not normal. My mother and grandmother both had hystorectomies in their early 30's and my other grandmother is living ovarian cancer right now.

I need help, doctor not giving me answers...?
You need a specialist, specifically an orthopedist.

Furthermore, there are some symptoms that are better treated by an orthopedist than a chiropractor.

These include:

Back pain with associated leg pain

Numbness or tingling in the legs

Weakness of the muscles of the legs
Reply:The pain does indeed sound like sciatica, but a chiropractor will offer you no help. You need to start with a sound general practitioner and explain the pain, where and how you feel it and for how long. They will probably have you go on a regimen of high doses of anti-inflammatory drugs with possibly an extra pain killer at night for one to two weeks and see if that doesn't fix the whole problem. If not they will try the next step.

The good news is that while sciatica is horribly painful and uncomfortable, it is not particularly associated with serious GYN diseases, so there's no reason to be concerned that there's a connection there. It's more likely to stem from a physical injury, even one that you don't even remember (lifting something slightly wrong, getting knocked over by one of your children, etc) which caused an orthopedic injury and a subsequent neurologic injury.

It's likely that a good round of anti-inflammatories will help within a few days. Get away from that useless chiropractor who didn't even know this much less offer any help.

I agree with the idea of an orthopedic specialist having a look at you. I doubt that it is a gynecological issue if the doctor did not feel any changes in your ovary or uterine size. (I would recommend finding another just in case and having a second opinion as he should have addressed the fact you have a high history of cancers) The chiropractor has been very thorough and has at least given you other options as to your unresolved pains. An orthopedic doc could do an MRI which would give a more detailed look at bones, nerves, any abnormalities that may be cause of your pain. X-rays only show bone structure defects. Never let anyone dismiss your pain. Too many people go forever with this as they have been dismissed and think "it's all in my head". I can tell you from experience that after my son was born (3rd child) I had a lot of pain in my left hip, if I didn't watch how I stepped my leg would almost give way from the sharp pain that would shoot! I mentioned this to my ob and he wanted to send me to an orthopedic specialist as he figured that I had kind of wretched my hip joint out of place during child birth. After about six months, it went away on it's own so I never went. But, now it comes and goes as it pleases and I know I should have went while I had insurance!!! Good luck and I hope you pursue this till u have an explanation!

P.S. It could also be associated with a neuropathy, decreased blood flow to the effected leg, side effect of a medication (like birth control-which can cause blood clots as you get older-especially with a history like your family)
