Does anyone have any complaints about Kaiser Permanente?

My mom has Kaiser as her health care provider. Considering that she's a recurrent Ovarian Cancer patient, you would think that she would be a priority member. However, since her recurrent condition, her Oncologist Specialist has done the bare mininum to assist her in her fight against this disease. He even went as far to tell her that she had 6 months to a year to live and that she shouldn't save up instead take vacations and do whatever her heart desired. He also called my mother to inform her of her recurrence and wished her a prosperious life. Now he's tyring to sabotage her approval for disability benefits. This is ridiculous. If you have any complaints about Kaiser please speak up, if not, and you have any suggestions as to what I should do, please feel free to do so.

Does anyone have any complaints about Kaiser Permanente?
I live on the east coast and I have had Kaiser for years and YES I have complaints about them. To many to go into here. My suggestion would be to call you members services department and report the incidents. If they tell you they will investigate, give it a few days and call back to find out if they have an answer for you or your mom. It is a headache, but you have to let them know that you won't be treated like that. Remember the squeaky wheel gets the oil.

Reply:I also have complains about Kaiser. When I take my mom had twins and I take the twins to Kaiser I always have to pay $20 dollars for mostly nothing. They just take my sister in there and they just weight an then they say she is okay. But she is not okay whenever she eats she thows it up! And me and my mom are really worried.
Reply:Where do I begin? I grew up with Kaiser. My father still has it. My mother died there. I am a Doctor of Chiropractic and used to practice in L.A. with a lot of Kaiser patients (obviously, including my parents).





First my mother. She died a couple of years ago of recurrent breast cancer. Kaiser had her on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) even after her initial mastectomy. This is medically 'Outrageous'. HRT can cause breast cancer!





During her last two years of endless chemo. and radiation treatments she had developed a 'spot' on her liver that they were monitoring with periodic Cat Scans. About 6 months before she died, following another round of chemo. and radiation, the follow-up CT of the liver was 'clear of the spot' according the the radiologist's report. Big, Big, Oooooops! The treating doc never read the CT films himself (that is malpractice) and the radiology report should have said there were now "two spots" visible on the liver. Just imagine the emotional 'hayride' this created for my poor mom. Two weeks of optimism and hope, crushed when the corrected report came to the treating doc. Obviously, within 6 months she was gone.





Now for my dad. At 62 years of age, with a long history of hypertension, he came to see me for treatment of his 'headache, neck and upper back pain' that was initiated by 'walking up hill' and 'relieved (except for the headache) by rest'. This pattern had occurred repeatedly for several days when walking the dog.





These symptoms are highly suggestive of a mild heart attack. My dad explained he had called his physician at Kaiser and was told 'it is not serious, take some Motrin'. I advised 'dad' to go to the ER. He sat at Kaiser's ER for about 6 hours (with presenting symptoms suggesting a possible heart attack) and finally left without being seen.





Dad continued to see me and I continued to urge proper medical evaluation. He finally talked to his doctor again, and was again told to 'take Motrin'.





This went on for almost ten days! And dad continued to have onset of symptoms while walking the dog and relief with rest. On a Friday afternoon I insisted he go to Kaiser's evening 'walk-in clinic' and I gave him a written prescription for an ECG (electrocardiogram). After two hours of waiting, he did see the doc and (surprise!) the doc said (let's all sing it together ... go home and take some Motrin!). Dad finally pulled out may ECG prescription and the Kaiser quack (oops, sorry, the Kaiser doctor) sent my dad down to the ER for the ECG





Drumroll please. The ER doc took one look at the printout of the ECG and said: 'You've had a heart attack!'. He was immediately admitted to the hospital. The next morning (Saturday) he had his second heart attack in the hospital. He eventually had bypass surgery. They now have him on lots of dangerous drugs and recent 'experimetal' statin levels have now given him permanent muscle/nerve problems in his arms and hands.





If you have stayed with me this long, bless you. Everything here is the truth. Nothing is exaggerated or taken out of context. You know what the funny part is? My dad has lost his wife, almost lost his life, has lost some of the use of his upper extremities and .... he still loves Kaiser 'because he doesn't have to pay anything'!
