Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian cancer usually happens in women over age 50, but it can also affect younger women. Its cause is unknown. Ovarian cancer is hard to detect early.
The sooner ovarian cancer is found and treated, the better your chance for recovery. But ovarian cancer is hard to detect early. Many times, women with ovarian cancer have no symptoms or just mild symptoms until the disease is in an advanced stage and hard to treat. Symptoms may include:
• Heavy feeling in pelvis
• Pain in lower abdomen
• Bleeding from the vagina
• Weight gain or loss
• Abnormal periods
• Unexplained back pain that gets worse
• Gas, nausea, vomiting, or loss of appetite
Treatment is usually surgery followed by treatment with medicines called chemotherapy.
Symptoms
• Sense of pelvic heaviness
• Vague lower abdominal discomfort
• Vaginal bleeding
• Weight gain or loss
• Abnormal menstrual cycles
• Unexplained back pain that worsens over time
• Increased abdominal girth
• Non-specific gastrointestinal symptoms:
o Increased gas
o Indigestion
o Lack of appetite
o Nausea and vomiting
o Inability to ingest usual volumes of food
o Bloating
Additional symptoms that may be associated with this disease:
• Increased urinary frequency or urgency
• Excessive hair growth
There may be no symptoms until late in the disease
Reply:Have you seen a doctor yet? It sounds as if you have, since you know your white cell count. It could be any number of things.
Obviously the thought of ovarian issues is frightening for you. I hope you can take comfort in the fact that I have had ovarian cysts since I was 16, and I have had many of the same symptoms, and I also have three children, and it hasn't impacted my life negatively, aside from occasional pain.
Best wishes!

Excess androgens (male hormones): This is most often caused by too much sugar and simple carbohydrates in the diet and is often found in women who have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). You can find out more about PCOS in What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About PREmenopause, as well as the March 1999 issue of the John R Lee, M.D. Medical Letter. And try saliva hormone testing for progesterone, estradiol and testosterone.
